Hot Wheels Drag Team AMX... that's a mighty tall intake cover

  1. Love the one pic of the TVR Griffeth or early Tuscan going at it.

  2. I wonder if the massive cover was to pack the intake with ice. Looks like it made more drag than it would be worth. The Ed Shaver AMX is the holy grail of hot wheels, one in the bubble pack sold for over eighteen hundred dollars on eBay a few years ago.

    1. Wow... I had no idea! I saw the 3rd photo down, and though, well, that's odd. The rest just took some digging around

    2. huh... ice pack didn't occur to me, but in the images, I'd guess the temps are mid to low 50s, as everyone is wearing a jacket

    3. Yeah, just a wild as guess. If this were F-1, they'd be wondering if it was some magical aero device that gives the car downforce or stability. In this case it was probably 'what the hell, give it a try.'

  3. I was stationed in England in the 90's and worked on the F-111 (like in some of the pics). My friends and I went to Santa Pod Raceway and camped out for the weekend do watch the drag racing. Nothing like top fuel here but we had a blast anyway.
