Lunch wagon history... just amazing. Thanks to Daniel who surprised me with this trivia about the "Way Side" Lunch Wagon

T. H. Buckley inside one of his lunch wagons

There were 3 of these White House Cafes purchased from the T.H. Buckley Lunch Wagon Company of Worcester, Massachusetts by the Women’s Christian Temperance Union and set up in NYC.

The idea was to offer prepared food for the equal or less price that taverns offered alcohol with free food. The idea was “to go on the wagon” and spend hard earned money on food and forego the evils of alcoholic consumption.

And now I've learned where the phrase, "fell off the wagon" applies to going back to drinking after trying to be sober

Thomas Buckley, an ardent prohibitionist, later designed coffee kiosks for the Buffalo Exhibition in 1906 and shipment to the UK.
Thanks Daniel!
