a steam train (!) delivered the third Gromit Unleashed trail sculptures designed by firms including animation studio, Pixar, at Bristol Harbourside. The sculptures on on display, then sold at auction, and ‘Gromit Lightyear’ raised £65,000, alone, in 2016

The heritage train was loaded with a dozen unique character sculptures and driven by Wallace & Gromit creator Nick Park to mark the start of Gromit Unleashed 3.

The sculpture trail is a joint initiative by The Grand Appeal, the Bristol Children’s Hospital Charity, and multi-award winning independent studio Aardman.

The harbour railway train was greeted by school children before one of the sculptures was lifted onto the harbour’s heritage cranes and another sent off to its summer location onboard Bristol’s former fire-boat, the Pyronaut.

Nick Park’s Academy Award®-winning character, Gromit, first unleashed on the streets way back in 2013 to raise money for sick children in Bristol and beyond. Now, over 500 sculptures, four trails, and 10 years later, Gromit Unleashed has inspired a legion of fans across the globe.

for over 27 years Aardman and Gromit Unleashed has raised millions of pounds to support sick children and their families at Bristol Children's Hospital and St Michael's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit as the hospitals’ dedicated charity.

Different artists design a Gromit to reflect their well known brand, like Pixar, but very surprising to me, is that Paul McCartney designed one as the Yellow Submarine!

He signed one of the ears. .. that's pretty cool!

  1. Thank you for bringing this to us. I have never heard of this charity. What beautiful creations that reflect the imagination of adults who make them for children (all ages) to enjoy!

    1. you are welcome for sure! I'm thrilled to find this story, as I've been a fan of Wallace and Gromit for something like 20 years! Plus, I hope to say that though I can't afford to donate to the charities I post, I hope that spreading the word far and wide to people that never would learn of them, is a big help to both sides. I just added a link to a webpage that describes a bunch of the art pieces, and added a new photo of a British Airlines Gromit
I never heard of Bristol Children’s Hospital Charity, or Gromit Unleashed, even though this is the 5th or 6th event with the characters from Aardman.
Stefan Marjoram (a frequently posted artist, photographer and incredibly connected guy in the Beast of Turin restoration) used to work there at Aardman!
