Jim assembled a nearly complete collection of Hot Rod magazines, from the 1st, to 2014. A couple months ago, he put it up for sale, but of course, didn't say how much he was asking. No one ever does.
I collected nearly all the regulars from mid 1949 and didn't stop holding onto them until about 2019 or so. The quality drastically fell off around 2015 or so. From 2004 to 2014 it was really fun.
Try finding any car magazine in a Walmart rack or any grocery rack and there is nothing. The few time you do find a Hot Rod it is half the number of pages and usually just slightly modified. No contract writers anymore and the few articles they want written are completely wrong. A long time friend of mine told me they sent the written article and pay nothing and what they do send is total crap. He finally just quit the trade with no regrets. Magazine industry is basically dead as everyone wants to just read it on the internet. Sad situation in my opinion but what do you? I guess that's why there are so many "How to do it" type magazines and TV show about how to do everything yourself Pretty sad state of affairs. Pretty much the same thing with newspapers. It all just sucks said the one eyed blind welder!
