  2. Absolutely, yes!
My friend used to live in Switzerland. He ordered a book from Amazon. He was tracking for his package. He found a little strange that his book went to Paris first. He tought: "Okay, maybe they don't have a direct connection between Switzerland and the US and there is a hub in Paris". A two days later his book was in Cape Town, South Africa. He called the customer service and they figured out Amazon sent his book to SWAZIland instead of SWITZERland. (Got his globetrotter book a few days later and the P&P cost have been refunded for him.)

Plus there are international travelers in the local news here once or twice every year whom mixed up Budapest - capital city of Hungary - with Bukarest - capital city of Romania - and discover their mistake when arrived to the Ferenc Liszt airport. (About 560 miles away, can be covered even by train, but very annoying if you are on a tight schedule and want to attend an event.)
