it turns out, there is a very real reason to avoid getting a couple specific vanity plates... because gift shops make identical fakes ones , and those drivers get tickets all the time that the DMV will send to YOU as the only registered person with that plate

 

350 tickets, roughly, have been sent to this guy, because he has the only real Nevada plate with the phrase Area 51... and thousands of people have fake plates like it, sold by gift shops. 

But those people get tickets, like stop light camera tickets I suppose, and since no real cops are verifying the tickets are legit (as they legally must according to the laws) and since the police departments are part of the money making machine with automation doing the work of sending tickets to people, and letting them, at their expense, fight the tickets in court, this guy has proven that there are some plates that will generate a LOT of bad tickets that cops are NOT verifying, as they legally must.
