  1. Once upon a time they were just regular cars. Had a friend in college (1965-66) who had a '63 split-window that he used to tow a trailer with his sprint car on it! Spec'd it out weird for just that purpose: 360 HP 327; 4 speed; 3.08 axle. That car also provided an object lesson in axle ratios. Another friend had an identical '63, but with 4.56 gears. They decided to race to the next town - 11 miles away. I was with the guy with the 3.08's. Our friends disappeared from sight pretty quickly, but we were still in 3rd gear when we passed him flat out at red line in 4th! We were in the bar with drinks by the time the other pair arrived! AH, the good old days!
