The quote on the door of the Citroen research department during the early 1950s creation of the DS was "Everyone thought it was impossible, except one idiot who did not know it, and did it."

Hard to believe that this debuted at the 1955 Paris Motor Show

  1. it looks much less complimentary in French, think it's cause I hear it in my head with an accent that drips distain:

"Tout le monde pensait que c'était impossible, sauf un idiot qui ne le savait pas, et l'a fait"

    1. Uh oh... you've raised the question of the most beautiful car.
There is a lot of competition for MBC, Most Beautiful Car.
I think some of those late 1930s french coachbuilt cars will be in the top 5 MBCs

    2. I know, and it's not the only car that takes my breath away. But at the end of the day there's only one at the top.

It has a nice part in the movie 'Voyager' (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voyager_(film)), as does another design icon, a real, flying Lockheed Super Constellation.
