seems to be a "rail tractor" in New Zealand

  1. Saw what you did there, interesting contrast to your excellent posts on the Case 150.

    1. uh oh. You saw what I did.... but I didn't.
So, I'm at a loss, and you have the advantage.
I appreciate the compliment on the Case 150 posts, I think that what he did was stupendous, in recreating, piece by piece, the largest of the Case steam tractors without an example existing to get specs or parts from.
THIS was simply a cool old logging train photo, where someone adapted a tractor for railroad use.
So, I'm not sure if you're joking, or making a tongue in cheek comment about this being lame compared to that.
      I don't blame you.
Compared to the Case 150, this is a waste of time.... but I didn't post this with any connection to the Case 150 in mind.

    2. "Rail tractor" vs. "Road Locomotive"

    3. OH! Wow, sorry to make you spell that one out. I'm telling you, not enough sleep really does a number on the brain.

  2. Howard Nattrass was the man behind the wheel. Originally a Cadillac agent, his first rail tractors were made from recycled early Cadillac V8s but were found to be a bit light for the job. The Fordson tractor was a God-send and he converted and sold a large number, some still survive on display or in museums.

    2. I even posted that photo before, but the copy I posted before didn't have the writing on it.
I meant to look up the New Zealand posts for the side chain drive tractor on rails. If I had, I would have caught this and identified it
