1939 Studebaker Champion, a car built as cheap as possible to get the company out of bankruptcy, that it only had one brake light. Designed by Raymond Loewy

  1. Single taillight is not all that unusual at that time. The 1939 Ford Standard only had one taillight, the Deluxe had two. Probably true of others as well

    From a '39 Ford brochure:
De Luxe Ford Equipment and Appointments - ... two tail lamps ....
Ford Equipment and Appointments - ... one tail lamp ....

  2. And no rear view mirror, evidently!
