the nearly 90 year old gas station of Howard Sears

Now restored and a museum, can be found in Rome, New York

inside are cool old things you'd expect in a gas station of 80 or 90 years ago

  1. This is just "down" the road from me...
Sears Oil went by Sears until the mid-90's when Sears, Roebuck & Co finally won a suit, and the company changed it's name to SeaCo.
After a few short years the company sold out to Hess.
Hess ran most of the locations as is, just changing the signs and trim colors. Hess has recently sold off their retail locations to Marathon Oil, and Marathon is using its Speedway subsidiary for the operations here in Central New York (greater Syracuse) When SeaCo sold out they had about 15-20 locations.
Sears Oil had some beautiful art-deco enameled service/gas stations in Central New York back in the day, none of these made it to the Hess sale. Although there is one in Oneida NY, here is the street view... All I have to say about its condition currently is, at least its still standing...
