I finally caught the episode today at Jan 2, 2012, and Mike bought it for $13,000 from the Pioneer Auto Museum in South Dakota http://www.pioneerautoshow.com/
Dave, the museum guy, said it was in a Mickey Rooney movie, "The Big Wheel"

powered by an 1940 Indian straight 4 cylinder motor.

ReplyDeleteHaven’t seen this episode but I will get to it. From the pictures I was thinking something else that’s why I love American Pickers I can get lessons on things I had no idea what they were. I have followed the show closely for the past 5 months. I never watched it but then one day I was bored and I started watching it and I was hooked. Frank and Mike go to some awesome spots and locate awesome valuables. I watch this on my iPad using the Sling adapter technology. I connected this to my employee service with DISH. Now I can watch live TV or what’s on my DVR when I prefer. This lets me keep control of my TV. I never watched as much TV as I do now and I’m enjoying I can.
ReplyDeleteI saw this episode and noticed small section of the car in the picture with Mickey Rooney did not match the car in the museum. So I watched "The Big Wheel" from start to finish and there were no belly tank cycle cars in the film. Somebody got scammed.
ReplyDeleteActually I think the movie is called "Drive A Crooked Road" with Mickey Rooney. Would love to know who built this model since it is very different from other racers I have seen. Has a lot more style and extra bits which a true racer wouldn't use.
ReplyDeletei do not beieve this is the car in the movie " Drive a crooked road " . it was red, had bumpers, had bobbed fenders and no windshield,i found a picture of Mickey Rooney crouched down in front of the actual Belly Tank speedsteer used in the movie.
ReplyDeleteACTUALLY, , the Mickey Rooney movie belly tank car was red, had bumpers, bobbed fenders,,i have a pic of Mickey Rooney crouched in front of the car with a mechanic in the movie.
ReplyDeleteHow do either of you know this!? The film is in Black & White. There is a very brief section where you see the front end of a belly tanker in the European auto shop in Drive a Crooked Road, not sure if it is the same one.
