I'm guessing most of you, like me, have heard of the Stirling engine. Hell, some of you are probably familiar with the historic thing, I only recall that I'd once been taught about it in nuke power school. Patented in 1816

Tom Stanton, an aerospace engineer, has crafted a bicycle powered by a Stirling engine, a technology that was patented in 1816

Unlike conventional engines that rely on gasoline or batteries, this bike runs solely on heat. The bike can produce 100 to 150 watts, allowing it to move at 15 mph on flat terrain.

Stanton continues to refine his design, exploring options like thinner belts, a proper clutch, and a radiator loop to better manage temperatures. The potential addition of a regenerator to recycle heat could further enhance efficiency.

  1. Love it! I look forward to the progress of this "new" technology.

    1. I want them to made window fans from this.... no electricity, no drain on the household income, but constant improved air flow? I'd buy a couple. Two to vent the attic of the HOT air that causes the rest of the house to get hot, and stay hot, and couple for the cross breeze at night through the house, so that it's cooled off by night time low temps.
Why my landlord and room mates can not fathom cooling by night, closing windows by day, to lower the internal temp, and keep the need for air conditioning to the minimum.
And sure, why not bolt a couple to a bicycle, and seriously have effort free cruising? Oh that would be terrific in a recumbent, or beach cycle!
