Stu Hilborn passed away this morning.

a full write up is also at the link to Rod Authority. Briefly, he was a pioneer of the hot rod growth in the 40's by inventing mechanical fuel injection, perfected it, used it on the dry lakes and set  a world speed record in 1948

  1. An incredible man, and no doubt an incredible life. 96 years old. Amazing. I've heard it said several times that guys who tinker with cars live longer fuller lives. Maybe there's some truth in that.

  2. It's not clear to me if he actually had a record because another driver used his rod to break the 150 mph mark on the dry lake bed in Cali.
