The Michigan Pike is a historic tourist road, developed in 1911, leading beachgoers from all over the nation to unique and scenic towns along the lakeshore.

one of the nation's first ever tourist roads. Designated a Pure Michigan Byway in 2016

it was likely (and I'm not going to research into it right now) the results of the Tourism Board led by Hugh J Gray, https://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2025/01/an-unusual-roadside-attraction-near.html as he was instrumental in highway 31

    1. Yooper. Michigander sounds like a Canadian goose to me. HA!
Glad you've been enjoying them! I'm shocked at what there is online to find when you have a wide open fascination, vs narrow focus.
I can't find anything online anymore, for my hometown history project.
I am surprised I found as much as I did though.
But just looking for interesting car stuff? That leaves the door wide open for nearly everything

  3. That area is very nice. We've been to Holland, Grand Haven, Silver Lake, and farther north to Sleeping Bear Dunes and Traverse City.
