I'm guessing the list of who owned the select few GT 40s would show it was only the famous, and the rich and famous. Cena notably tried to sell his before his 3 year ownership contract expired, and now Gretzky's 2006 is for sale, with only 1,226 miles

It was originally delivered new to Gretzky wearing that iconic Gulf Racing-inspired livery and the legend’s own number adorning the doors – #99.

  1. This Gt was also owned by an Indiana business man who was indited for bank fraud, his collection was sold at auction under the “Elkhart Collection” the GT information is here:https://rmsothebys.com/auctions/el20/lots/r0029-2006-ford-gt-heritage-edition/
I saw this car in Indiana when I toured his collection before the hammer came down on him. Cena must have bought it at auction.

    1. I wonder if I confused the issue by linking the two stories of GT40s together that celebs owned, Cena bought his new, not the same #99 Gretzky car. Cena's was solid blue, and I mentioned it only to illustrate the point I was making in the title, that the most famous and rich people got first dibs on these, and I'd love to see the list of who those were.
So, Gretzky got his new, and Cena, got his new, and they aren't the same car.
One of them must have been, as you mentioned, then owned by the Elkhart Indiana collector

    1. yes, I know https://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2017/12/sure-people-buy-and-sell-cars-for.html I posted about it. I still call the new ones GT40s, because Ford has made a GT every damn thing excepts vans, that I know of. So, I could call it a GT, and someone might get froggy and ask, Mustang GT? Montego GT? Cyclone GT? And techncally, Ford never galled it a GT 40 back in the 60s. So, regardless of what you think of the GT 40, there has never techincally been a GT 40 according to Ford, and you're just as wrong as I am to think that calling the 60s GT a GT40 is correct, as I am calling the new GT a GT40 is just fine for a blog where no one is all that worked up about accuracy. This isn't an encyclopedia, and no matter what I do, I'm just pleasing myself, and not nit pickers.
