    Why the tape on the headlights? I'm pretty sure back in my fading memory banks I knew the answer one time.

      with a couple pieces of tape on a headlight, or any other piece of glass, if the glass breaks, the tape is likely to hold the pieces together, instead of the pieces shattering, scattering, and making a big mess
