I wonder how many scumbags get elected so they can waste other people's billions, like Mexico's last president, Nieto, who wasted 200 million USD on a 727 that had a full presidential suite with a private bath, and just where does a President of Mexico fly to anyway?

the current President of Mexico has been trying to sell the damn thing for 4 years, as no one has a need for such a waste of an airplane, except the Pres of the USA, and he's already got Air Force One, so, not many nation leaders are looking to blow 100 million on a used airliner. Maybe the Phillipine pres, son of the unbelieveably corrupt ousted pres Marcos... I bet he's ready to waste a fortune on a plane like this.

Anyway, the good news is that the Pres of Mexico, Obrador, said the government of Tajikistan paid the equivalent of about $92 million for the Boeing 787 jet.

He's going to take the money, and pay for a couple hospitals.

Now, that, is cool.

Why sell it at a loss? Well, you can't sell it for a profit after such an extravagant waste of money, and Mexico was eager to unload it because maintenance costs made it too expensive to keep parked

  1. The plane was bought by his predecessor. The current president of Mexico was elected in 2018 and refused to fly on it because it was to luxurious and usually flies commercial. He's been trying to sell it for 4 1/2 years and finally sold it to Tajikistan for 98 million dollars. He's going to take the proceeds to build two new hospitals. It appears to me he's a man of the people. Maybe it's a front but I'll give him two thumbs up!

    1. that's ok, we both feel the same way, and wanted to get the same information across. I give us both a high 5!

  3. You would be surprised, most of people that really want a FANCY plane (and there is couple of them, mostly Middle East) already have one. So they don't need another one, hard thing to sell. Most other gov. at least try, or pretend to try buy planes cheapest they can. Often those are used machines or even chartered for some time. President of Mexico fly all over the world, international meetings, UN assembly, some foreign visits, all that representative stuff. Remember that Saudi crown prince 747 for almost 300 million? I wonder what fancy stuff that machine had, Saudis have the money and know how to party, Nieto had a batch, those frakers could have a whole pool there.

Btw: not surprised that Tajikistan is buying that, it's de facto a dictatorship under same president from 1994. They like such fancy stuff.

    1. I was writing about that problem of all the rich already having such a waste of money if they wanted one, so it's very hard to find a buyer, exactly as you say, but I didn't state it clearly because I was preoccupied with getting the other point across more clearly, that Mexico's last president was an utter scumbag to waste the people's money this way... instead of flying commercially, and paying for hospitals, ambulances, school teachers, etc.
Who needs the president of Mexico to meet in person anyway? Zoom meeting, phone calls, are better use of time than flying around the world... and what possibly has Mexico any involvement in anything important?
They've done nothing to help Hong Kong, Taiwan, Ukraine... etc.
Mexico is useless, always has been, internationally. Did nothing to fight the Japanese or Nazis in WW2! Or the Germans in WW1 ! Didn't help the PI or the Cubans against the Spanish, didn't help the Vietnamese against the French!

    2. As historian buff I would like to correct you about Mexico role in WWII. They did declare war on III Reich in 1942, increase industrial production and resources for war effort, send own troops to fight Axis. Mexican fighter squadron fought in Philippines campaign. And what is often overstated, huge number of Mexicans were send to US to take place of US citizens that go to war, mostly they work in agricultural industry.

    3. declaring war on something is, as I said, useless. The Reagans declared war on drugs. Now how did that turn out? Crack went viral, cocaine was passed around in Hollywood parties like candy. Mexico declared war on the Axis/ 3rd Reich... useless. Useless, definition, of no effect, of no use. With no results, adding no amount of work.
Yes, the Bracero program opened the southern border between California, Arizona, Texas and Mexico - and the farm workers came into the US and did the labor in the fruit and vegetable industry. Did all of the farm work.
But that's not correcting what I stated, and wasn't a "role in WWII". Nurses had a role in WW2. Jeeps had a role in WW2, the Red Ball Express had a role in WW2.
Farm workers from one country moving to another, is not a role in WW2. The German POWs in POW camps across the USA in WW2 had a role in farm work, and lumber. That's not a "role in WW2".
It's something, it's not nothing, but it's not relevant to what I stated "Did nothing to fight the Japanese or Nazis in WW2! Or the Germans in WW1 !"
I didn't know that Mexico had a squadron of P47s in the PI in WW2. The Aztec Eagles. https://www.history.com/news/mexico-world-war-ii-surprising-involvement 33 pilots, 270 support personnel.
Against the Japanese Empire, and the German/Italian Nazi front, in Africa, Europe, Burma, South Pacific Islands, Russia, Italy... the Pacific, the Atlantic, the North Sea. in the back of the history book of WW2, it might be the 11,452nd note in the encyclopedia.
When I post about the one squadron that Mexico added, it will be one of 55,000 posts I've made, and one of 1052 about WW2.
If I had to represent 1/1000th of my body weight to how how little that is it would be about one ounce. Maybe 1.5 ounces. That's less than most people sweat each day, that's 1/20th the volume of your bladder.
That's equal to my statement of useless.

"Though the government passed the Compulsory Military Service Law in August 1942, Ávila Camacho made it clear that Mexico’s war participation would be limited to economic and material assistance."
I do not agree that you've corrected me, I do see that you've added a note
The president of Mexico "made it clear" that Mexico would have no military role. And realistically, 33 pilots isn't really a role. It's a token. There are small towns in many of the 50 states of the USA that had more significant contributions to the world war that the allied forces committed to simultaneously waging war against the Japanese and German, than all of Mexico's 33 pilots.
Useless sums up Mexico in WW2 and WW1. I do not stand corrected. I think you might be wrong to say they "send own troops to fight Axis."
I do not wish our different views on this to cause you to think I have any animosity at all, I respect you very much, and look forward to hearing from you always.

    4. I am surprised you knew about the Aztec Eagles, I had never heard of them, thank you! I will post about that, but I have a car show to go to today

    5. I blame that to phase that all that "main" stuff in World Wars start to just boring me, Tigers this, Panther that, B-17, Bismarck... all that first page stuff. So I reach in to obscure things, like Aztec Eagles or Brazilian Expeditionary Force in Italy. I even presume you are at the same phase when obscure things interest you much more then first page usual.

I value your opinion on that topic as it is correct one. In scale, Mexico involvement in the actual fighting was very limited. But also I stand by my opinion that Mexico still take part in that fighting, most of countries did not even did that. So let's clink beer bottles and change topic respecting our opinions.

    6. certainly, I agree with your wisdom. I decided when I began this blog to not repeat stuff, and having went through so much of the regular cars, and ordinary things, I am mostly posting obscure stuff, and will certainly be doing that when I post about the Aztec Eagles, after my car show coverage of Deusenbergs from this morning
