Terry found this in a 1939 Popular Science, it's a reminder how even the cutting edge stuff (blimps in this case, and sky scrapers) are just passing fads that don't stay in vogue very long. Anyone building skyscrapers like New York did a 100 years ago? Not so much


I also think they overlooked the obvious, the wind in skyscraper canyons isn't conducive to flying, AND cities prefer to not have an airport in the middle, they seem to create airplane crashes.

  1. The fifty-story Pan American Building in New York City, now known as the Met Life Building, had a heliport. After a few years it ceased to be used because of the high winds at that height. So, the 1939 prediction came true but was gone by the mid 1960's.
