Bolo Babe crash-landed near Moyeuvre-Grande, near Thionville, France after she lost an engine and her electrical system during a mission to Ludwigshafen Germany, Sept 1944.
The entire crew returned to the UK by C-47 and returned to flight status on 13 September, 1944. The aircraft was salvaged.
Bolo Babe flew 50 missions.

Absolute coolest picture. Look at those young men. Just barely out of high school it seems. 50 missions. That's twice their life expectancy. No doubt that tough old bird was scraped after the war when it should have been preserved.

ReplyDeleteNothing is in the information provided at the source of the photo that says anything about wounded or killed. It specifically says the whole crew was back in England in 4 days "The entire crew returned to the UK by C-47 and returned to flight status"
DeleteI just report what I find. I bet there is more info online if the "B-17G 'Bolo Babe' (42-102601) of the 546th Bomb Squadron, 384th BG" is googled.
That might result in info about why only 7 are in the photo. One might be taking the photo of course.
