On March 10 at ConExpo 2020, Caterpillar will host the finals of its Global Operator Challenge, which will pit (pun intended) 9 of the world’s best operators against one another for the title of top dog in the operator world.

To be the best, you have to beat the best. First, local dealer challenges. Then the Regionals: Europe, North America, South America and Asia.

Then Las Vegas for the finals.

The culmination of thousands of operators competing in local and regional events across the world like these

2020 Conexpo-Con/Agg will begin on Tuesday, March 10 and ends on Saturday, March 14

A look into why this seems to be needed, is analyzed by this interview of these 4 construction managers, as they discuss new employees abilities and expectations, and the industry overall

in the video below. Fascinating discussion!

  1. The job market right now is so tight, that no one wants to work a dirty job, when they can make the same or more sitting in a climate controlled office from 8-5.

the company I work for is always hiring excavator operators, and its very hard to find people who want to do it, and who have the ability.
the problem is the money, these jobs pay good money starting out, but like truck driving, you never get a raise, because there is NO room for advancement. if youre an accountant, you can always get promoted to department manager if you have the talent. but in heavy equipment and trucking, there is no department manager position that you can move up to, that position always requires a college degree.
