odd to make a truck out of this Mercedes, but it's also odd to add the lower set of headlights.... aren't those E&J type 20s? And the body appears to be wood

  1. This Mercedes appears to be a 1928 S-Type touring model that may have been custom bodied in England with a fabric covered body. A similar one sold for about $4.5 mil about 10 years ago at Bonhams. But the British model was RHD and this one is LHD.

    1. I am guessing that it's that French coachbuilder that made bodies out of gorgeous wood, I can't recall the name, Le Tourniff? But I have seen a couple of the cars they made

    2. This car is right hand drive. The man in the white sweater is sitting on the left side, but the steering wheel is on the right.

This car might be from Spain, because I found that starting in 1910, Spanish license plates started with "E". The life guards shirts are lettered in English, so that doesn't really make sense, though. I found that some early UK plates had an "E" for Staffordshire, but they only had 4 numbers, and this plate looks like 5.

I was curious about what is on the running board, which is a case that says Lungmotor. I Googled it, and a Lungmotor was basically an air pump that could be used to resuscitate a person who wasn't breathing.

The last sentence of this description led me to the movie "Soup to Nuts", which was an early appearance by the Three Stooges. This movie was written by Rube Goldberg, and one of the characters makes Rube Goldberg devices. A couple of simple ones can be seen at about 9:30 in the movie. I skipped through the movie and I only found a short appearance of the Lungmotor at about 1:06:00. Not car-related, but I thought you might find this all interesting.

  2. What looks to be the truck bed, appears to possibly be a convertible top under a cover. Just my thought.
