“Operation Hardhat” is currently being conducted by New York State Police, the NYDoT, and the Thruway Authority to catch drivers who are speeding in construction zones

I stand corrected,

the guy bent over and using a grinder is Dominic Fuller

So I stand corrected and have changed this post to let you know he needs a guard because he has a wife and kids, and people like me don't care.

Does he mean people in a hurry to go places are murderers, who get a free pass to kill construction workers? Or that we have magic powers that allow us to selectively target husbands and fathers, but only the ones with kids not yet in school?

  1. Boy, if indeed they are "FAKE" work zones, then that's entrapment in my book. Now if it's in an actual work zone, then beware, and be careful out there. I think that may be coming through the Cortland, N.Y. area on I 81 South bound. I drive that area a lot for the work I do. Not 100% sure, but it does look it.

    1. That is Cortland area. That's what the info is at the link. And I looked through the photos, these two show the most area, and... there isn't a construction crew, nor equipment, nor fresh dirt, or new pavement.
Just cops with hardhats and yellow vests with a LOT of cars pulled over.
Hey, I'm fine with a cop pulling people over for speeding. Whatever.
But making a fake work zone?
Nope. Find a real one, they are out there, and those construction workers would LIKE some damn help.
      Putz police.

  2. Do you know how much it costs for Maintenance of Traffic? For a run of the mill bridge maintenance project it is usually about 10% of the total construction costs. The project I'm wrapping up now and about $800k, that's for a project that really isn't affecting more than a weekends worth of traffic. A single lane closure on a mile long tangent section of rural Interstate for a full day will run just short of $17k, with blue lights and no crash truck.

    1. Ok. That's good info, how does it comment on the post? I mean, what is your drift direction?

    2. Guess I didn't actually make a point there, sorry. The point I thought I was going to make is: There are a lot of government agencies that don't have the budget they need to actually improve infrastructure. The most that a lot of state DOTs can do is just barely maintain the existing condition of the roadways. The public works departments that take care of the storm water systems are down doing emergency repairs and that's about it. The police department can spend thousands of dollars on some bull shit MOT to make a few hundred dollars on some bull shit speeding tickets. I don't agree with this whole de-fund the police cry that's been going around but I do think they should get that blank checkbook slapped out of their hands.

    3. Good point Lukypunchy, seems the police could simply set up speed traps in work zone with the construction, which they have done before. This does seem a bit extravagant, even for the state to be doing this. No doubt the governor has his fingers in this pie too. It wouldn't surprise me.

  3. Revenue in NY is down. WAY DOWN. Agencies are under the gun to drive up revenue from the citizens. Police agencies are no different. This is 'Creative entrapment' by the State Police. People in this area are aware of the 'Legitimate' Construction zones and do what they can to protect the workers. The state DOT does a good job of advising of pending work zones so this would have been a surprise to a regular traveler and in my way of thinking unfair as far as measuring the compliance of the average citizen and God forbid you miss a sign warning you of this. Double fines and double penalties along with the risk of losing your license.

  4. typical cops who have ,sadly ,in the last 20 years become nothing more than revenue collection officers.
the Georgia State trooper headquarters was recently attacked and vandalized by an angry mob, and the governor has sent in the national guard to protect the building, but of course, the troopers who couldnt protect their own building, are still out writing speeding tickets all day.
