Owl Autonomous Imaging launches Monocular 3D Thermal Ranger computer vision for pedestrian safety, enabling object identification and ranging regardless of environmental lighting

The Owl Autonomous Imaging’s Monocular 3D Thermal Ranging platform not only enables cars to see at night, it also enables the vehicle to know how far away the living object is and what it is.

It operates day and night, in all weather, and definitively classifies vulnerable road users (VRUs) including pedestrians, cyclists, animals and vehicles

  1. Very cool technology but it seems that more lives could be saved by working a solution to "distracted driving" from cell phone use .

    1. there are several solutions to cell phone distracted driving... but not a single one can be pushed onto the people who ARE the problems. Similar to other social problems, the people who are a problem, can't be constrained by laws, or solutions, as they are the rule breakers, the causes of mayhem. There is no one solution for all omnipotent cure. Just like all the examples I could list, once the genie is out of the bottle, there is no pushing it back in

    2. Ohio just changed their laws to make distracted driving a primary offense, so an officer can pull someone over for talking on the phone or other distracted behavior. Before, the driver could only be charged if they were stopped for another offense. I haven't looked into the details of the law, and I actually only heard about it when it went into effect at the beginning of the new year. I hope it will help prevent some accidents, but I am concerned if there is too much left to the judgement of the officer who is enforcing the law.

  2. Looks like a good product to have. Bentley offers a system for enhanced night viewing. As for distracted driving, indeed, there is no solution save to fine these people until it really hurts in the pocket. When I receive a call on Blue Tooth into my car, i keep the call short because there is no reason for me or anyone to speak at length. If needed, then PULL OVER, which I have done and have explained to the caller that I will call the person as soon as I find a safe place to speak.
