one of these days I'm going to quit blogging, so when I hear what a blogger said about his 24 years of daily work and why he's taking a long vacation from his blog I pay attention

he's a full timer that went the distance to get patrons and advertising, and made a living at blogging, if you haven't heard of Kottke, it's a variety blog that shares whatever comes up of interest to the blogger

    1. well, so will mine! Ha! But there's a couple other things that I want to do, like learn guitar, and that means learning music theory, and reading music, and all of that will require all of my time that I'm not at work. Plus, I have been putting off my other project, a compilation of my favorite poetry, from the 140 or so books of poetry I've accumulated. (That's why I made the poetry blog). So, two projects that I have on hold, and have been looking forward to, which will simply be more important than this car blog, which certainly is past if's peak of quality content. The really great years were 2014-2019. In my opinion, that's when I came across much more impressive stuff, and in the past 2 years, there doesn't seem to be the same level of stuff out there to discover anymore.
Anyway, the writing is on the wall and I've just been delaying dropping this ball, and picking up the guitar, or the poetry books, and getting started on another thing that I enjoy as much.
Since this isn't something that ever turned into a full time paying gig, so I could do this half the day, and do one of the other two things in the other half, I'm stuck with having a clock punching job that remains wasting most of my day as a slave to the grind.

    1. well, there's so much here that it requires me to pay Google to store it. So, I guess I'll hit the button and put adsense on it after I no longer look at it every day, just to see if there will be enough clicks on that trash to earn the 50 bucks a year to keep it self sustaining after I kick the bucket. If not, eventually it's going to be deleted by Google for failure to pay for the storage of the blog archives on their server. I am not wealthy enough to set 5 thousand dollars on a credit card for paying the annual bill in perpetuity for the next hundred years. 50 a year, by ten years is 500 bucks, ten times that is 5000 bucks to get it to hang around for a total of 100 years.
Not sure how long it matters that this blog stays online after our generation dies anyway, it's only here for entertainment. It's not likely to matter to anyone in about 50 years anyway, certainly everyone that likes it now will not have any use for it 50 years from now, and I'll definitely be dead.
And no, I'm not going to kill it when I turn away from it like Goawaygarage. That sucked, he had a lot of cool stuff!

  3. Kottke is one I also read, and while I'm happy for him it will be one less entertainment. I hope you don't go too soon. I might have to stop fooling around and get back to work or something!
