Groucho, Harpo and Chico clowning around for the camera behind the Orpheum Theater. They were in town for an extended engagement with a troupe of 40 performers, complete with costumes and sets for 11 scenes. This would be their only performance before they retuned to Hollywood.
The theater was locked down tight for 2 weeks of rehearsals because they were going to audition scenes for a new movie that still being written. When the show would open, for a week of performances, several of the screen writers would sit among the audience and gage their reaction to the gags.
The stage show eventually became the film "A Night At The Opera".
