The MGA's design was loosely based on a factory-built race car for a privateer running the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1951, that was scrounged up using MG TD mechanicals by Syd Enever, who joined the company in the 1920s at the age of 14

The MGB was ultra rigid, a unibody, and MG's monocoque car, and resulted from contributions from Syd Enever.

SAIC Motor of Shanghai bought MG in 2007 by acquiring Nanjing Automobile Corporation (NAC), which had bought the brand from the defunct MG Rover Group in 2005. Currently, MG operates as a division within SAIC's passenger vehicle branch.

built, not bought, this 39 Buick was a derelict that Stanley "Hot Rod" Chavik transformed into the Shafer 8, an Indy racer replica, in Zlín, Czechia (Czech Republic) ... and then he and his wife moved to California in 2017 with it!

 

In 2003, after years of internet fantasizing, he opened Hot Rod Chavik, a welding and fabrication shop in the industrial town of Zlín, Czechia.

While in Zlín, Stanley acquired a derelict 1939 Buick that he transformed into the Shafer 8, an Indy racer replica akin to the camera-ready creations of his internet heroes. Everything on Stanley's tribute to Phil Shafer, who built and raced at Indy in the 1930s—from the body, with its classic boat-tailed torpedo shape, to the horse-collar grille—came from the mind and hands of this metalworking Dr. Frankenstein. 

The Buick's thundering straight-eight, which Stanley rebuilt to the tune of 200 hp, got a custom intake that maintains four Stromberg 97 carbs, which Stanley magically conjured into the Czech Republic thanks to more internet magic. 

 Finally, in 2017, Stanley and his growing family, which now included his petite dynamo of a wife, Daisy, and their son Stanley Jr., moved from the Czech Republic to a sunny suburb in Orange County, California, with not much more than their clothes, a U.S. E-2 visa for new businesses, and their show car.

And now he's been featured in Hagerty and Hot Rod Magazine!  (the American dream, to make something cool, and succeed, and be recognized and respected!)

interesting Mopar trivia, I've never heard of until now, in a Hagerty article

In 1969, both the Road Runner and Super Bee came standard with the 335 horsepower 383. It was painted orange. 

The non-performance 383 4-barrel was rated at 330 horsepower and was painted turquoise. 

The main difference between the two engines was the camshaft. 

However, if you ordered a Road Runner or Super Bee with air conditioning, Chrysler installed the milder 383, meaning AC-equipped Road Runners and Super Bees received the turquoise 383.

Coco Champagne, not just another pretty name

with the name "Coco Champagne" wouldn't you figure you're talking about a useless Hollywood"famous for being famous" woman who can't do anything useful? Me too, but I looked her up, to either confirm the suspicion or learn something, and she actually runs the largest vintage car insurance company in the world.

The second woman COO in Hagerty history, and one of Hagerty’s longest serving employees, and is now responsible for the company’s “people strategy.” She’s helped build a team that has tripled the annual revenue of the company and expanded the global workforce to more than 850 employees. For the past four years, Fortune Magazine has named Hagerty a “Great Place to Work.”

Champagne joined Hagerty in 1999 as leader of the sales and service operation and was promoted to vice president of human resources in 2002. Most recently she held the title of Chief People Officer.

Coco Champagne was with Hagerty when they counted the workforce in dozens, not hundreds or thousands.

 She has now spent 16 years in human resources, recruiting, managing, paying and developing the company’s staff. Last October she was promoted to chief operating officer, expanding her role beyond HR, though people are still at the center of Champagne’s job.

With 140 new positions approved for 2019, Hagerty will have more than 1,100 employees. Many of those new positions will be in Traverse City, but some also in the Golden, [Colorado]; Stamford, Connecticut; Ann Arbor and Stouffville [Ontario, Canada] offices

I find that odd, but then, maybe Aaron is a freelancer. The 3 old staffers from Hot Rod Magazine aren't. They're about half the management of HRM.

I'm not complaining, I'm just pointing out something strange about the biz... that Hagerty is paying some really good writers, from other magazines and websites, to fill it's website with articles.

those fun Hagerty people are going to bring another dead vehicle to Hershey, and bring it to life with swap meet parts! This time, a Model A car frame

Hagerty’s “Swap to Street Challenge” kicks off on Oct. 4 at the AACA Hershey fall swap meet, Starting with the remnants of a 1930 Ford Model A, four Hagerty employees will attempt to build an entire car in four days using parts sourced at the meet. The entire build will be streamed live, then we’re planning to drive the vehicle 750 miles back to our home offices in Traverse City, Mich.

In addition to a Model A chassis and a non-working four-cylinder flathead engine, the car includes a three-speed manual transmission and its original mechanical brakes. Everything else will have to be located by scouring Hershey’s massive swap meet – more than 9,000 vender spaces covering 85 acres surrounding the Giant Center and Hersheypark.

Flashback Friday gas prices, thanks to Hagerty Car Ins Co. the gas was priced the same as the year of the vehicle that drove up

Hagerty Insurance, as a tribute to the classic cars and the good ol days of cheap gas, gave a few classic car owners in Beverly Hills California a chance to top off their tanks at throwback prices last Friday, from 8am to 11am, in honor of the seventh annual Collector Car Appreciation Day.

The cost of each driver's fuel was whatever the average gasoline price was when his or her car first his the road. The owner of one 1970 Ford Mustang, for example, paid 70 cents a gallon to top off his tank. A guy in a '55 Chevy Bel Air, meanwhile, shelled out just 29 cents a gallon.
