My baby beside me at the wheel
I stole a kiss at the turn of a mile
My curiosity runnin' wild
Crusin' and playin' the radio
With no particular place to go
… Ridin' along in my automobile
I's anxious to tell her the way I feel
So I told her softly and sincere
And she leaned and whispered in my ear
Cuddlin' more and drivin' slow
With no particular place to go
… No particular place to go
So we parked way out on the Kokomo
The night was young and the moon was gold
So we both decided to take a stroll
Can you image the way I felt
I couldn't unfasten her safety belt
… Ridin' along in my calaboose
Still tryna get her belt a-loose
All the way home I held a grudge
For the safety belt that wouldn't budge
Crusin' and playin' the radio
With no particular place to go
This is a fun song, about a car with a small but crucial problem when taking a date out for a cruise.... and it mentions a "Kokomo" and when I tried looking that up, the internet just refers to the Kokomo that the Beach Boys sang about.
Real "Kokomo" Locations:
Kokomo, Indiana: A city in Howard County, also the county seat.
Kokomo, Arkansas: An unincorporated area in Lee County.
Kokomo, Colorado: A ghost town in Summit County.
Kokomo, Hawaii: A community on the island of Maui.
Kokomo, Texas:
Kokomo, Mississippi: An unincorporated community in Marion County
When I was very young one of my uncles called me "Joltin' Joe From Kokomo" and for years I assumed Joe Dimaggio was born in Kokomo Indiana. At that age I thought only movie stars came from either coast, and that sports stars were regular guys from the middle of the country like us.
ReplyDeleteAah..you young guys;now that you got that one,try "Maybelline"
ReplyDeleteyou're wrong, I've been listening to Chuck Berry since the mid 70s, and it's nothing new to me, this song wasn't either, it's just something I was listening to for the millionth time and in a new frame of mind, that of sharing cool car stuff
