I bet the "Dopemaster" meant something completely different in 1948

  1. Once upon a time, one might ask for the "straight dope," meaning the raw facts. I don't recall examples, but imagine it's the kind of thing you'd expect Humphrey Bogart as Sam Spade saying. "Now gimme the straight dope and stop playing around!" I'm guessing this was what was meant.

PS. thanks for the note below. I've been traveling a lot (oh poor me!) so not a lot of correspondence when having fun snorkeling in Indonesia and schmoozing with the penguins in Antarctica. Gotta have some compensation for getting old! But I'm still around, and still enjoying, as always, your finds.

    1. I'm familiar with the Dope slang, but, using the suffix "master" seems very 1980s.
Snorkeling! Compliments on vacationing in a very relaxing way!
Penguins? Also very relaxing, but antarctica? Sounds like a cold place to go schmoozing! You know they have penguins in zoos, right? Lol.
      I'm glad you're still enjoying!
