1967 Coronet 500 taillight panel... this has got to be the result of a Dodge designer being so impressed with something that they used this for the Coronet tail, and the Charger Grill

  1. Definitely an awesome design for the rear end of a car. But I'm surprised you would think of a Cougar for the inspiration, you being a Mopar guy.
A lot of late 60's Dodges had this styling for the grills, like a 67 Charger for example, so I would imagine the design idea was totally inhouse.
Also, the Cougar was first introduced in 1967, so hard to copy something that wasn't out yet.

    1. my mistake. I instantly thought of the one other car, from the same era that had the parallel bars, the Cougar, and googled 1966 Cougar to see if I was right that the 67 Coronet was inspired by it, and Google responded with many 1966 Cougars.
Since the Mustang birthed the Cougar, and the Mustang began in 64, I had no reason to research further
      Thanks!
