did you know that the Gremlin was ultra stiff, and didn't rattle, because it had no hatchback or trunk lid? It had a hinged rear window instead.
And it was marketed and being nearly the same size (within a couple inches) of the VW Bug wheelbase and length
It was a lot quicker, nearly as fuel efficient, and had a tighter turning circle. Plus, it had a 21 gallon gas tank so it would go much farther per full tank
when I was a kid my mom drove a 68 Beetle for many years and then in 74 or 75, bought a Gremlin at a repo auction, it was way better than the beetle, more room, more power and A/C !
ReplyDeletethough not quite as much fun on the curvy mountain roads,
The Gremlin was the original shooting brake
ReplyDeleteBought a new Gremlin and drilled through a brake line swapping in '66 Ford low back bucket seats... duh.
ReplyDeleteGot a high rent stereo, and speakers hung from the ceiling over the back seat. Used it for camping all over the country, went to Alaska, Disneyland and saw Evil jump the canyon... or tried to jump it.
Visited a friend in BlueBall, PA, and he said let's go to a garage sale. Sure why not. I just missed a Gremlin that had been sold with a small block Chevy and 4 speed installed. A finished car that was beautiful.
wow, you adventured with that Gremlin! And WOW, you were at a Evel event!
