serious race bikes (thanks Kim!)

do I know why this steering and suspension is superior to the usual forks, but then, I'm a car guy.

So when Kim, a bike guys says it's so, I simply realize I'm hearing gospel. If you want to read about this 1977 craziness, https://www.motorsportretro.com/2009/12/elfs-experimental-bikes/

  1. There are theoretical advantages to hub centre steering. You don't have long, spindly fork legs supported at only one end so they bend and bind under braking. The layout also separates suspension and braking loads so the front end doesn't dive and use up all the suspension travel under braking. However, nobody has made it work well enough and economically enough (it's a complicated system) to succeed in the mainstream, either on the track or the road.
