in 1971 Nascar created the 305 cu in rule, figuring no one would show up with a winged Daytona or Superbird with that small of an engine. They were wrong. Mario Rossi got Keith Black to make a 305 by destroking a 340

and it was the last winged car to race in Nascar.

After a small crash and being 2 laps down, driver Dick Brooks came back to get 7th place.

In the late 50's Mario Rossi moved south to be a mechanic working for Smokey and Bud Moore.
During the 1969 season, Rossi introduced the new standard procedure of gluing the lug nuts onto the wheels to enable quicker tire changes while the car is in the pits.
