the Brock Buster

Modified in the early 70's by BRE and other legends of the Southern California racing scene, this car is a street legal "sibling"...if you will...of the famous "46" and "85" '71 and '72 2.5 Trans Am Champion 510's campaigned by BRE.

Peter Brock's "personal street Datsun 510" was the subject of a two page centerfold in the March 1973 edition of Motor Trend magazine, a Model Kit by Revell, photographed in Sports Car Graphic Magazine in December 1984 and memorialized in Autoweek in January 1986.

According to the MT article Brock took a stock Datsun 510 2 door - priced at $2300 - and added $2500 dollars of (mostly) bolt on modifications to create the "Screaming Yellow Street Datsun 510" that is tagged with the name "Brock Buster" by MT.

The car was originally built as a demonstration exercise by myself and BRE of what could be done to a Datsun 510 to make it a more attractive, better performing street vehicle. As the leading Datsun factory-sponsored race team we already had demonstrated the 510's potential on the race track and we felt that it would be wise, for promotional purposes, to show what could be done with a practical, street driven 510."

a former AutoWeek editor, George D. Levy, owned it at one time after Brock sold it

    1. I'm familiar with BRE, http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2017/08/whoa-history-lesson-all-laid-out-of.html

are you saying Brock has something to do with THIS car, or just that the 510 is famous because of Brock's racing?

  2. A great car! BMW 1800 for those of us who couldn't afford the BMW.. I bought mine new in 1969 and slowly helped it with wider wheels and tires, carb jets that made it run better, high intensity driving lights.. couldn't afford the stuff to add a lot more horsepower, but loved the little PL 510.
