Ten years ago I travelled from Cary to Chicago by train, it was winter and there were around 40 cm of snow. I was horrorized to see a lot of cars in the snow, I remember a Porsche 911 spider with the canvas hood fully covered by the snow. On the other hand, when I bought my first new car (cost USD 5000 in Argentina, year 2004), I had a big concerning to make shed to cover my car from sun and rain before receiving the car from the dealer. Just two opposite points of view of the same problem, my conclusion is that noone cares to care something that was easy to get. I had my little car for over 15 years, allways sleeping under the shed.
