anyone else find electric cars ridiculous when they have to have a diesel generator at the track to charge them up? Clean energy and green cars my ass

  1. If you want to drive a modern performance sedan, take a test drive in a Tesla model 3 AWD performance model. It's quicker than any of the great muscle cars in street trim. It will match a Helcat on street tires in the quarter mile and beat it to 60. Sure you need to watch the range, especially if you want to use that performance. But my BRZ only got 4 or 5 mpg when I accelerated it hard. Just try a Tesla before you make up your mind. It's a real drivers car.

    1. so, the Tesla can pull off a competitive run vs a Hellcat... but, a Hellcat can do it all day. That Tesla is only going to last, for what, 20 minutes at that rate? That Hellcat only needs a gas pump, and it can do it all day, every day, then drive across the country, and oh... what's that? The Tesla needs charging stations, etc etc etc... ?
Hmm. See my point? The Tesla is a fine machine, but only for comparing to other electric cars. To do what a gas car, as you point out that the Hellcat is a good comparison, I'll use a Hellcat for my example too, to do what a Hellcat can do, the Tesla needs a lot of recharging, and wasted time, and that recharging is just burning coal or diesel in a generator somewhere up the electric power grid... not under the hood.
So, since they both are polluting about the same amount to accomplish the same results, what is the advantage of the Tesla, why hold it up as a example in your comment? Why not just give an example of some other "modern performance sedan"?
Why comment on this post, with this example of a Tesla? Those two electric cars aren't Teslas, and they are symptomatic of the electric car problem... they simply aren't better than a gas car. They just need some carbon emission generator to pollute for them. Seems ridiculous to me... to pay more for an electric car, that can't drive across country (I add that, as I prefer to drive across country rather than fly and then rent a car)
      No, I refute your premise.
Instead, if I want to drive a modern performance car, I'll test drive a Hellcat.

  2. In California 4% of the electricity comes from coal. Around 34% comes from natural gas and over 40% is from renewable sources like wind and solar. A Tesla emits a lot less CO2 than even a Prius counting the source of the power. For my commute of over 100 miles I charge over night at homes on both ends. No waiting in line at gas stations. Sure charging at Superchargers is more time consuming. It's not the car you want if you drive much over 200 miles a day between stops at home to recharge. Otherwise it's fun to drive, even in stop and go freeway traffic where Autopilot lightens the driver's load. I do miss the engine sound, though. For that I got to ride in Dry Martini (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etf1hr2YDKM). Listening to those engines is a religious experience.

    1. I never brought up Teslas, that was you. I showed a photo of a diesel generator that is charging these electric cars. If there were a Tesla plugged in, then I'd point out that a Telsa emits exactly how much CO2 that diesel generator emits. End of discussion. I'm not here to talk about a Prius, or a Tesla. Neither are in the photo I posted, and a Prius is a Hybrid, as far as I know, and a Tesla isn't, again, as far as I know. Further, I do not care. I'm sure it's fun, until you're sitting around after a bit of racing against a Hellcat, which "waiting in line at gas stations" isn't nearly as much a waste of time as charging the Tesla to drive it home after those drag strip passes to try to best the hellcat in the 0-60 that YOU brought up into the conversation. Again, probably a nice golf cart, but it's not a car I'd prefer to the competition who don't strand you on the drive to SEMA from San Diego, or LA, or, well, ANYWHERE you might live and have the option to drive instead of fly.
I'm sorry you commute 100 miles, damn, that's gotta suck, both in wasted time, and and emptying that Tesla battery, to the point you can't do much else, or miss a day if the power is lost (southern california fires, for example) and still get home the next day.
You enjoy it though, I'm sure you won't be disappointed while you own it.
I'm never going to buy one, so, you may as well stop trying to persuading me that they are a wonderful thing. If I want an electric car, you can be sure I'd rather have one from 100 years ago... a Baker, for example.
After all, have you actually looked at this site? This isn't a Pro-Electric car site. It's actually the opposite, and the only Electric Cars I post about, are the cool old Bakers etc from 100 years ago.
If you'd like to talk about those, GREAT! But, I really have better things to do that to repeat pointing out the obvious reasons a Tesla, or any other electric car, like the Volt above, are stupid for using as a car, race car, or only car owned. They make a great golf cart though.

  3. You have me wrong and I'm a giant fan of this sight. I also love IC engines. I just think you are being unfair to modern electric cars.
