I don't know, I think everyone missed where I was going with this... the banner, to me, is an incredible photo.
Instead, all of you wanted to identify the plane
So, here are the originals of that plane.
Some of you were wrong. You know who you are.
Spitfire, 12 o'clock!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely not. Look at the fairing around the exhaust pipes
DeleteYak 3
DeleteSuper Marine Spitfire. No wait, Messerschmitt Bf 109 I believe running a BMW engine?
ReplyDeleteDefinitely not. the exhaust on the Messerschmitts was lower than the engine. These exhaust pipes are higher. It's a Yak 3
DeleteAlso, it's not a car. But I thought you had non car banners before.
ReplyDeleteI've had everything as a banner
DeleteAye, Jesse sometimes even have banners as banners. You know, if you like enough banners he got you covered with banners of banners. ;D
DeleteYak 3, likely of the Normandie-Niemen squadron.
ReplyDeleteyou are the only one to nail it. Well done!
DeleteLooks like a Heinkel He.111 engine cowling?(DB 600/Jumo 211)
ReplyDeleteAll your banners are amazing!
Close, but there are more panels on a He 111, and not one large smooth panel with a fairing around the exhaust pipes
DeleteDamnation, my speciality and I miss this contest! Of course it's Yak-3 and easy to spot colors on propeller mean it's White 6, replica if I remember as the last Yak-3 of N-N squadron was in Le Bourget museum.
ReplyDeleteTry this one: https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTsOSuBVSLyvpEl-uHXic-rxko2ThJ53cK24J72SLUcaH4vwn74
ReplyDelete...and it's not a Me 262. Nor is this one: https://www.1000aircraftphotos.com/Contributions/Braas/9444L.jpg
DeleteEasy, Su-9. Not a copy of 262 but heavy influenced by that design.
DeleteDamn Jesse, that's a good quiz you did there. Have you done these before? If not, do some more and let us test our visual trivia skills. That was fun. Kim, how the hell did you know that???
ReplyDelete1) Assembled too many plastic model kits 50+ years ago. (Here the 20-20 rule applies: At my current age I clearly remember everything that happened within the last 20 minutes, and more than 20 years ago).
Delete2) Few V12 engined fighter aircraft have a spinner not flush with the hood.
3) Colour on the spinner was unique to the Normandie-Niemen squadron.
Now try this one: https://www.1000aircraftphotos.com/Contributions/Braas/9444L.jpg
DeleteMethinks I 'Yak'd' too fast on that one!Should have got the N-N spinner!
ReplyDeleteGreat fun!
