Corsair built by Goodyear too late for WW2 combat, it went into civilian ownership in 1959 after 5 years of storage. Bought for $485.67
Then bought for 600 dollars by the Chino airplane museum. Now selling for 4 million dollars.

God only knows what the restoration must have cost. Granted most of the work hours were probably donated but the parts and esp. the overhaul of the radial engine must have set them back a buck or two.
ReplyDeleteNot exactly a beauty, but it was probably the best Allied airplane of WW2 in terms of performance, firepower and survivability.
ReplyDeleteThey built 8 Super Corsairs, all in Canton, Ohio. Largest radial engine in a fighter.
