wanna see some interesting engineering? I dig this stuff, but it's rare to come across


Walter used a unique FWD drive system using pinions and ring gears for the final drive. It was a great system but it did limit the turning radius which also accounts for the radical set back front axle which was used in an effort to shorten the wheel base and thus improve the turning radius.

  1. I think I saw something similar in Mercedes Benz Unimogs circa end of the seventies,
    I do not know if previous or further models have the same system.

    1. I think that maybe another type of reduction gearing(portal axle,as I hear now) that VW used in all their early kombi vans and indeed in WW11 vehicles.
