How to avoid the Chicago railyards... put the trains on ferrys and take them across the lake, and the SS Badger is the last of the coal fired steam engine powered ships that were built to do that, which makes it part of US Highway 10, and M-90, and a National Historic Landmark (thank you Brad!)

The trains hauled cargo, like Wisconsin dairy, beer, and meat, (Remember, Green Bay Packers were named for the meat packers!) lumber, paper, tractors and Nash cars across the lake, and in the other direction, Michigan produce, chemicals, salt, car parts, and vehicles

the train engine from the movie The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes had an interesting engraved design, inspired by 1930s Art Deco industrial design, on the front of the enclosed casing hiding the mechanical components, reflecting the authoritarian and polished aesthetic of the early Capitol

The Illinois Railway Museum has restored perhaps the oldest bicentennial diesel locomotive in existence. 

Ingersoll-Rand 91 was the eighth production diesel locomotive ever built and was constructed in 1926 by a consortium of American Locomotive Company, General Electric and Ingersoll-Rand. 

The 300-horsepower diesel engine was perfect for low-speed switching and was sold to the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western

The boxy locomotive worked at the DL&W’s Brooklyn rail yard for a quarter century before being sold back to Ingersoll-Rand, which used it as a shop switcher in Phillipsburg, N.J., from 1951 until 1984. It was then donated to IRM. During its time at Ingersoll-Rand, the locomotive was painted in a special red, white and blue livery to celebrate the nation’s 200th birthday.

As the only locomotive at IRM to have been given a special patriotic livery for the bicentennial, I-R 91 was selected by Diesel Department volunteers for cosmetic restoration during the nation’s semiquincentennial year.

the muscular little 0-4-0 steam locomotive known as “Standard Oil No. 1” that once chugged along the miles of rails at the Standard Oil Refinery starting in 1920 will soon be on display at the Fort Caspar Museum (Thanks George!)

The Standard Oil Refinery in Casper was the largest in the world for a time and had a lot of track for its engine to cover.

Skip the first 30 seconds, and then again to get past the scenes where the acting is going on, unfortunately they didn't edit a video for just scenes of the train. 

By the way, the train isn't public transportation, it's only for guests of the Wizard to use to get a ride at his request.

it's puzzling to me, why all these were forgotten and abandoned. Why weren't they stored at corporate lots, or scrapped for the hundreds of tons of good steel? Or sold (while they were still running) to South American countries?

looks like a cool handmade design, info on the post says it's from Chicago's Kiddieland. I hate the bell on it though, just throws off the sleek design, noise making junk only annoys me.

This year, Rétromobile is dedicating one of its flagship exhibitions to a masterpiece of mechanical ingenuity: the Bugatti Autorail. It is powered by four Bugatti Royale engines, the last surviving example of the 88 produced.

A true national treasure, kept at the Cité du Train in Mulhouse, it will travel to Paris in a special convoy over several days, which will be relayed in real time to allow enthusiasts to follow its journey. Its arrival is already considered an event in itself.

Things like this remind me that being financially able to travel to events like Retromobile, Goodwood, Rømø, TROG, Bonneville, the Essen Motor Show (Nov 29-Dec 7) etc, must be superbly rewarding as life events seldom have such incredible level of excitement, speed, unique vehicles, and being among my own kind of like minded wonderful gearheads, auto enthusiasts, and racers

I do not dismiss the fortunate situation I have, to live in San Diego, and have the ability to got to the events in So Cal, like Comic Con, Goodguys, D23, several Concours, CTN Expo, Lightbox Expo, and SEMA, with a press pass. 

I do wish to go the others, the list I just mentioned, as what is life but trying to enjoy as much of your hobbies as it's possible to do? And events are finally back to the awesome level they had achieved before covid
