A rare 1939 Aston Martin C-type with coachwork by Bertelli won the Louis Vuitton Dolomites Classic Run. 

The car, driven by Gianandrea Redaelli, was one of 22 exceptional classics that completed the four-day journey from Venice through the Dolomites to Monza.

a 1960 DB 4 with just 37,000 miles, came to auction, out of a collapsed garage, where it had been forgotten for 35 years, and sold for £145,000 (thank you Stephen R!)

“The garage it was in, the roof had gone completely,” Derek explains. “It was quite clear that the owner never went in there, blanked the car out of his mind. The Aston was tucked away, with flat tyres that we pumped up, and a tree blocking its exit that we had to cut down."

New owner Julian Crossley is no stranger to restorations so his plan for the DB4 is to show how much restoration you can do at home, even on an Aston Martin! Using specialists where needed, Julian will be sharing the restoration journey to encourage others into restoring cars. Work will start as soon as the NEC show is over, and you can follow the restoration on Crossley Motorsport’s Instagram channel.

the Swedish Volvo P1800: Designed by Pelle Petterson while working for Pietro Frua in Italy, built by Jensen Motors in West Bromwich England, and this unique one has an engine by Aston Martin chief Sir David Brown (thank you Doug!)

The cars were powered by the Volvo B18 1.8 liter engine with 90hp, that was according to Aston Martin chief Sir David Brown, was inadequate to power a proper sports car and he decided to commence a rather bold experiment. 

In March 1961 he commissioned his engineers to develop a 2.5 liter 4-cylinder engine shortened from an existing DB4 engine by cutting off two cylinders. The crankcase, crankshaft and camshaft had to be designed and built from scratch while the liners, pistons and valves could be taken straight from the six cylinder DB4 engine. 

After the first three engines had been completed, Sir David Brown made an agreement with the then UK Volvo importer Charles Singer to test one of the units in a Volvo P1800

The project was cancelled, the test mule scrapped and the remaining engines used for other projects.

Since 1974 these engines had been considered lost until, in 2003, engine #3 was found, overhauled, and an early Volvo P 1800 originally completed at Jensen's was found.

This result was completed in 2005

Since the two other engines were most probably scrapped many years ago, there remains only this one DP208 P1800, making it one of the rarest items in Aston Martin history.

Shelby was awarded a Patek Philippe in 1959, for winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with co-driver Roy Salvadori, in the Aston Martin DBR1.

Shelby, not being the most materialistic person, rarely if ever wore the watch, and later gifted it to his teenage son Pat. 

 
The family treasured the watch for its sentimental value, how it marked such a memorable day. "I didn't wear it, and it upset him," Pat says. "He said 'You ought to wear it,' and I said no. It was pristine, and I wanted to keep it that way."

Now the watch and the Aston Martin are on display in a watch/jewelry store in Dallas, a reuniting, sort of.
