Great photos. New England housewives cooked the New England Boiled Dinner on their stove top on wash days where other hot plates on the stove were used to boil the wash. It is how a meal could be served to the family after a hard day of laundry. So, why not in the cab of the locomotive?
Once had a BSA single head gasket go bad while on vacation. It happened right next to a Polish railway museum, where they use steam engines on a few select routes. So of course the copper gasket went into the boiler on a shovel, and soon after into a frisbee with water, and - presto - we were on our way again. Until it croaked with a transmission problem.
