Why can't motorcycles just use the shoulder of the interstates (like a bike lane) instead of splitting the lanes?

    Good idea, if there's not too much crap lying there. Btw, many cities with bus lanes also allow taxis and motorcycles to use them - the former being a kind of public transport, and for the relative safety of the latter.
