Roger Dean art as a response to the flying elephant helicopter (Thanks Kim!)

Of course flying elephants would remind annyone that's seen the above album cover art that it's not a unique idea (after all, Dumbo was created in the 1930s https://www.latimes.com/entertainment/movies/la-et-mn-dumbo-animation-20190329-story.html )

and when looking at the artists other album cover art, this one was striking me as in the same genre as flying elephants, and dodos.

His art is very similar to the book cover art of the John Carter Of Mars series, and the Edgar Rice Burroughs other book series cover art, similar to Michael Whelen, and has the color factor of Maxfield Parrish a bit.

You'll probably enjoy quite a bit of it https://www.rogerdean.com/paintings  it's so very 60's and 70's airbrush and fantasy stuff... no doubt a lot was added to the sides of vans

Roger Dean, born 1944, is an English artist and designer who is best known for his work on posters and album covers for progressive rock bands like Yes, Asia and Uriah Heep.

After graduating from the Royal College of Art in 1968, Dean became involved with the music industry when he was commissioned to design the album cover for the first Gun LP. Many other covers should follow until 1974, usually for hard rock

It shouldn't surprise anyone that album cover art is a source of a lot of vehicle art, or really damn good photography, I've already covered the album cover art of Barry E. Jackson on ZZ Tops 1980s albums, and Ron Cobb, the variety of amazing stuff on Westminster Gold albums,  Guy Webster photography   and dozens of some other mostly unknown stuff: https://justacarguy.blogspot.com/search/label/album%20cover%20art

  1. I believe he might have seen pictures of the famed SR-71 Blackbird. Very good choice!
