the Illinois Senate passed a law to lower yearly registration fees for a utility trailer (under 3000 pounds) plate from $118/year to $36/year.

Decreases the flat weight tax for Class TA trailers from $118 to $36.

  1. In New York State you can register most trailers (camping trailers excluded)in the state of Maine. I just registered all three of my trailers there. One 16' Shore Lander boat trailer, one 10' Karavan utility trailer and one 16' Car Mate enclosed construction trailer. All three cost $99 each for five years coverage and no NYS inspection is required. The total for all three for five years with shipping was $317.95. I was paying $89 a year for the Car Mate alone.Basically I registered all three for five years for what it used to cost for a little over three years on the Car Mate alone. And again no NYS inspection is required! The savings is huge!

  2. Apparently, in Ohio, trailer registrations have to be renewed every year, but in Michigan, you can have a permanent trailer license plate. My old boss "sold" his trailer to a buddy in Michigan, so he could get the permanent license.
