Santa Fe and Route 66 in Pasadena. The eastbound Chief noses past midcentury traffic on Colorado Boulevard (late 1950s?)
View looking north at the Colorado Boulevard Santa Fe crossing. The all-Pullman Chief, outbound to Chicago, is at center. Note the elevated flagman shanty, complete with warning bell, at center left.
Line is still there today but the crossing at Colorado Bvld. now has the Gold Line light rail line going under the street. The last Santa Fe diesel train was in 1995. The last steam train was 1992. The line from Union Station follows the almost the same route today as it did in the early 1900's. The light rail is electrified.
