Fred Philips, a car collector you might not have heard of, but you'll recognize some of the vehicles as unique and well known, with 4 warehouses full... it's Aladdin's Cave of car treasures

with a Lola, a GT 40, the James Garner 4x4 Baja Sc/Rambler, Peter Revson's Trans Am Javelin, a Hurst SS AMX, the ramble seat prototype AMX, and the Don Lee Special, and about 70 others

In the late 1980’s, Phillips opened his current endeavor, Focus Auto Design, which specializes in molding and forming custom auto parts for restorations and general fixes. Because of the high demand for his services, Phillips quickly earned the money he needed to get back into collecting cars.

Unlike almost every other collection of this nature, these nested boxes of wonder aren’t secreted away from the public and covered up. Instead, every so often Fred throws open his doors and gives a guided tour of his collection. If you happen to be in Calgary at the time, do everything in your power to attend.

You won’t just be getting access to one of the most fantastically varied car collections in the country. You’ll also be getting access to Fred Phillips. Trust me, this is well worth the price of admission – a donation to AARC, the Alberta Adolescent Recovery Centre.

Thanks Greg, for getting it. Look around at the content, the stories, the photos, the heros and icons. If bashing on the grammar and spelling mistakes is all the satisfaction you can get, you're blind to the elephant in the room... and need a lot more maturing than you'll ever achieve lurking on the internet while building toy cars. Go outside and see the world, step away from the computer for a change.

    1. Why are you wasting your time typing a comment? You aren't intelligent enough to comprehend the difference between a car guy's website, and the notion of whatever the hell you've dreamed up that a blog should be in your perfect world. Your effort to see how loquacious you can get on put downs was wasted. I've heard better from gutter punks in countries where they made shit up in English, and it wasn't even their native tongue. I'm not here to meet your expectations you stupid twit. This is my site, I do it my way, and you can piss off. Those who've enjoyed it continue to come back for more cool stuff I post, and no one who doesn't is missed. I'm not the self absorbed perfectionist you modelcarmag derps are, I don't care if you look at my content or not. But criticizing it? You haven't earned the privilege to do that on my site. Write what pablum you wish on your own forum, pigs love to wallow in their own filth

  2. Hey while you are running down the posters on the Model Car Magazine forum, just remember (well you probably never knew) that this was the magazine that misspelled "Ferrari", on their cover, in big print, not just one cover but two. And they were notified about it after the first issue but nonetheless kept it consistent (consistently wrong) on the second issue. That was of course not the fault of anyone posting on that board, just kind of indicates the general level of sophistication there. That "Keyser" guy is an exception, he is sharp, witty and has a number of exotic 1:1 cars. And he can tell a poorly formed sentence from a well formed one.

We all love your comments but if you are going to make them please have the strength of character to leave them up for all to see.

Nice article by the way, well the subject is interesting anyway.

    1. I post what I want, how I want. No one is paying me for a subscription, and I'm not under any commitment to post in any particular way. It's my website, done my way. Those poofters at Modelcarmag forum who for some unknown reason feel I ought to write, correct, edit, and proofread before posting haven't got a clue as to my motivation or purpose. As for your comment about strength of character, well... shows you don't know me. I put up what I want, when I want, and delete it the same way. Nothing you see here was placed here for you, or anyone in particular, and it won't stay here for the same reason if I get a notion to pull it off the internet. Neither you, nor anyone, has had to pay or register, or subscribe to see the content I post, nor was ANY one invited or pulled in by advertising. No one. I haven't ever advertised, I've never requested anyone to look through my site. You all are free to do as you please, and enjoy what you chose on the internet. I'm flattered that some choose to enjoy what I post, and I'm not in any way affect by the overwhelming majority of the human race that doesn't have any idea my websites exist. I'm not as caught up in self centered navel gazing as the expert know it all grammar nazis on modelcarmag are. Why they prefer to believe they are smarter, or more polished in the eloquence of the language is for them to analyze. I'm doing my thing, and anyone that wants to follow along, or not, must please themselves. Anyone who wants more than I put on my site is guided to the links of the sources of the content I find other places and simply share at my website. I don't have to match anyone's ideal for a journalist, or reporter. I too can tell a poorly formed sentence from the sophistication of a linguistic genius. I simply don't care to make that much effort on this site. You, and they, missed the title. Just a CAR GUY. Not a journalist, reporter, editor, or grammar nazi. Why the hell anyone feels the need to troll and bitch about the lack of spell check or university grad level English is a mystery to me. What the hell did I do to raise your expectations until you assumed I'd put out perfect sentence structure? This is a car website. Not a doctoral thesis, nor a writers habitual spare time hobby. Strength of character? Who the fuck are you talking to? You don't know me. When you want to get to know me, fine. I'll buy the first beer, and we can talk about cars, motorbikes, war machines, or a dozen other topics I'm familiar enough with to carry a conversation and tell some good stories. You can learn about me then. Those notes were for the pissants at modelcarmag who seemed to relish the moment they could egg me on. Last laugh is mine, I pulled them in, and got a ton of traffic for that post that wouldn't have had a 1/4 that much attention. All for typing slower than I think, and shorthand sentence structure about something most people just look at the pretty pictures about anyway. Strength of character? Who the fuck are you to even question mine? Go give kids charities half as much free publicity as I do. The traffic I generate on this site, in my spare time, for doing as I please, is only one indication that I'm far more successful at my hobby than the people getting paid at the other car sites to put out better content only to achieve traffic for ratings for advertising rates to make money for those companies. You've maybe noticed I do not have any advertising, and when I post about an artist, charity, or company that does something cool, it's gratis. I do so to respect the creator of the art, or new car part, or charity, and not for pay, ratings, or crass reason. Strength of character? You ought to read my website about advice for the next generation, or the one on poetry, or the interior decoration one... or find something to enjoy in any of the other 9 I do, in my spare time. Question my character? What the fuck do you know about me? ZERO, NOTHING. Not a damn thing.

  4. I felt like I walked into the middle of something. Ghostbuster was removed before I had a chance to read it. I read the 10 37 pm comment. It's easy. Your website, your rules. It's like tv. You watch and like or turn it off.

    1. yeah, there was a snipe giving his pompous bloviations, and I've deleted it. So, somewhere in the middle to the end of a tirade, yes. You've got the same look at it as I do, don't poke the bear when you are in it's cage, if you don't like something about it, you can just go away. Or you can hang out and put up with other people's shortcomings and idiosyncrasies, and enjoy the show. Obviously, assholes will be themselves and ruin the day, hence, we have the Orlando shooting.

  5. So Cal Plating Special? You should probably do your research. That car hasn't been seen since 1962...

    1. My bad, it's the Don Lee Special, and it looks very similar http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2013/12/the-kurtis-built-don-lee-special-is.html

    2. as for doing research, you're welcome to volunteer to research everything I post. 24,500 posts so far... and just trying to look at that much content will take you two months of spare time. Researching it? Would take forever. But good luck with that Skippy, let me know how much effort YOU put in every day to ANYTHING online for the enjoyment of others, without advertising, registering to access, etc.

  6. Skippy...lol...haven't been called that before. Guess again...it's not called the Don Lee Special. It was built after Don died. You're close though...

    1. Whatever. Tommy Lee, Don Lee, same difference, I simply have about 100,000 cars and owners in my head, and when they are as similar as the So Cal Plating Special and the Tommy Lee Special, son of Don Lee who had about 4 specials, I simply point out that I posted them correctly, my not refer to them exactly right, and if you want a refund, first you have to show you paid to participate. You didn't? What?!?!? This is all just free entertainment and you're welcome to enjoy or go away any time my little personal website upsets you with my many errors? Huh. How about that. Since you didn't bother showing what you do of similar effort and amount of content for the past 10 years for others to enjoy if they will

  7. 2 out of 2 posts I looked at had errors. Why would I want to pay for content like that? And yes, I'm a contributor to many sites. You have no idea who I am and we'll keep it that way since you seem to have anger management issues toward anyone who questions your content. Have a wonderful day!

    1. yeah sure you are, you're too embarrassed to mention you're looking in from Model Car Magazine, and haven't got the maturity to look at more than.0001 percent of this site or anything else before exposing your shallow ego as a judgemental douchebag

  8. Again...you have no idea. Absolutely no idea how far from the truth you actually are. BTW...I know who took those photos and that video yet I see no credit being given. How does that work?

    1. see how you're commenting as "unknown"? And you're bitching about credit? Do you understand irony? I simply don't care if you know the video and photographer. I didn't ask. Most of the photos are watermarked, and that is the end of that. The video? I don't care who taped that, it's up to them to add their info in credits, before or after the interview, as has been the custom with video and movies for over a hundred years. If they haven't headlined the video on Vimeo, again, that is up to them. Some of us aren't going to have a temper tantrum if we don't get patted on the back for participating. We weren't in your generation of "everyone gets a trophy". Some jsut do the work and focus on the subject getting the publicity. It doesn't matter who records the video, the world does not give a shit what equipment was used either. You sure are full of yourself, most people grow out of that after they are old enough to get laid. Maybe you need to get laid. Try that, if it doesn't cure you of your ego issue, to bad. I don't have to put up with you, so I really don't care.
