Sure, it would be easy to overcome, but, most people would just put their seatbelts on before starting the car and driving, and isn't that what we want?
Maybe there is some ramifications to your car turning off if you unbuckle your belt, in a parking lot, or to reverse so you can twist your body.
Oh well, just thinking out loud

In my lifetime I have owned a few motorcycles with this feature. If your taillight burned out a light on either the speedo or the tach would light up. I have never understood why they can't do this on cars. If they have done it has never been on any of the various makes I have owned. And on the seatbelt thing it is unfortunate, but there is not much that can done about people that do stupid things.
ReplyDeleteUS automakers were mandated to have seatbelt/ignition interlocks on 1973 and later cars but it was an extremely unpopular feature and dropped by the 1980's in favor of a warning only.
ReplyDeleteWell, dang. That's a good recall of history you have there! Thanks!
