Brooks, AKA Denis Syplenko, is doing with this 1970 Plymouth Fury and recreating the ads of the era.

He created this Plymouth Sport fury with 3dsMax, Vray, Photoshop and After Effects for the  3six0.net HDR contest

Thanks Mike!

  1. I have not seen that 1970 Sport Fury picture before, but I'm pretty sure it's actually CGI, using the same wireframe model as this series:

    1. Completely possible... but not likely. I posted that photo 7 years ago. Maybe it is, and CGI was that advanced then, however, I look at some details and think that since when seeing this image full size, and seeing the copywrite info on the lower left corner, and the "Plymouth is out to win you over" logo from the 60s... plus the reflection on the hood like right

    2. I think I'm pretty good at spotting CGI, and I know that the '70 Sport Fury was already done in great detail in the series that I linked to in my previous comment. Den Brooks did this series in 2009 according to his webpage, and yes the capability to render this image existed in 2011.

This series has fooled a lot of people because the model is very good. The image you linked has an unrealistically darkened windshield. I suspect this was actually an earlier rendering from before the interior was added to the wireframe model.

If you looked at the Den Brooks CGI gallery that I linked to, he also uses period-correct Plymouth scripts, and image filters, to make the pictures look authentic. Also note that, like those CGI images, this car has only a rearview mirror on the passenger side.

If you also look at the guy's blog, he has a video from 2014 showing a behind-the-scenes glimpse of him rendering a realistic scene with his '70 Fury model. Aside from the missing rearview mirror, one of the imperfections in this model, in pictures in which it is visible, is that there is a differential on the FRONT axle. You can see it in the video and in some of the gallery images on his page.

There is an article on Den Brooks' work here from 2013, featuring a Corvette Stingray. Amazingly, every picture in this article is CGI.

    3. Also, about that copyright notice in the bottom left corner. If you actually read the notice, it says:
      HDRI and backplate from www.3six0.net
      Copyright 2009 3SIX0

The background was a stock image from a royalty-free background image library website. It doesn't exist anymore but I confirmed this on the internet archive wayback machine.

    4. I actually did read it, and did not comprehend what it said, nor why it mentioned that site. I figured that was the watermark left by a blogger

  2. And here is the image in question, together with Brooks' other CGI rendered images, in a blog article from 2009:
