I had a Squareback in the 70's. great little car. My little brother had the Fastback and put a 2.2 Porsche engine into it. Nice sleeper! That's probably why mine was called a Squareback.
David! How've you been?!?!! I haven't heard from you in a while, I hope the summer was pleasant and went well! These squareback's look like a fun car! I think I'd prefer one to a VW bug...
Hey Jesse, still on top of the dirt and doing swell. Wandered around Idaho and Montana in My '88 Winnebago and '87 Samurai. Way back when I got out of the Army and in college, working in a bar, I still needed $$ and would go to auto auctions in Seattle. I picked up many swell cars, but not being Jay Leno I had to flip them quick. Anyways, I recall a couple of VW's..Many would rack up the impound fees where it wasn't worth the owner bailing them out. Unbelievable but the square back had a broken clutch cable and the PO had purchased one and it was sitting in the back. Maybe $100. and 20 minutes to install it and drove it home.. These were the days! When they moved the auctions to weekends folks were paying stupid prices and it wasn't worth the chance. Keep-up with your swell site, I dig it..(;+)......
These were known as a Type 3 squareback.
ReplyDeleteThey're called Squarebacks, no one knows why.
